Gujarati Garba is a traditional folk dance from Gujarat, India, performed during the nine-night festival of Navratri to worship Goddess Ambe
What is Garba?
- Origin: Rooted in Gujarat, the word comes from Garbha Deep (an earthen pot with a lamp inside), symbolizing life and the fetus in the womb.
- Style: Dancers move in concentric circles around a central lamp or image of the Goddess, clapping hands and snapping fingers in rhythm.
- Dandiya Raas: Often accompanied by Dandiya, where dancers use wooden sticks to strike each other's sticks in time with the music.
